Today was a day where I forced myself into a workout session and deep work. Arranged meetings with some heavy powerful figures, handled mini family crisis and seethed about how pathetic by bf is for waking up at 1pm. After my swim, I had a bowl of zucchini fries kinda dried from the airfryer. What a shit day so far, I thought. I’ve been thinking that since Thursday, trying to snap out of my funk. At 7pm I decided to go out. I’d been watching this reel where a couple (or siblings?) have a simple day out in a Russian countryside. The framing is chill and playful. He pulls her out of a closet, like it’s a doll/robot. Holds her by leg and drags her out front. They do yoga, have a breakfast of Syrniki outside, lay on the swing, play football in the backyard and go on a bike ride. The song in the background is one of those where the tune is reminiscent of the past, and has late 2010’s rap drum patterns. This kind of content is probably framed to compare your day to it and make you feel bad, the comments confirmed. It most likely worked for me, because it made me miss their memories, wishing I could have a day like that (again?!) At that unbearable thought, I stepped outside, and read my book in this elevated crevice nature. On coming back, I decided to run to the store to get some cat food. Te sky was electric blue. After sunset, there was a chill in the air. I thought about all the July’s I’ve had. I notice how the sky changes tone and lighting through each season. A common theme was these certain type of evenings. Breezy, inky sky, post rain pavement. Decided to splurge on myself too, and bought a brownie and Jamaican beef patty. Everyone knows me here so I just walk in casually and don’t fuss about what to get or who’s watching me. some reason, I walked out in a better mood. Was it because I made eye contact with a hot guy opening the door on the way out? Mind you, no drugs involved. I noticed the light blue led lights on the bodega’s entrance and just appreciated the sights and sounds for a minute. A car drove by, drowning the space in bachata music as it passed. I smiled to myself. Say what you want about living in an east coast hood but it has its charm. The sky was darker, I was in an oversize shirt, sneakers and shorts. I thought how similar this was to New York. I had a strange vision of my being there right now, an alternate dual of me maybe in the present or future walking the same steps. Casual bodega run in a big shirt. I had a shit day but concluded it well with some super cheap good food. On the short walk home, I saw a couple guys and got on guard, giving them a side mean mug and jiggling my keys pointing them outwards to signify I have some kind of weapon. One of them called out to me politely and asked if I’m 21 by any chance. I told them I was 24. They nervously requested me to buy rolling papers for them at the store. I laughed and agreed, told them I’ve been there. I went back in and handed them my purchase. I realized I really love the younger generation.

honestly this is the move. you were in that funk scrolling comparison content, and instead of staying there you just went outside. didn't need to do anything fancy. the bodega, the sky, the random conversation with those kids, the brownie. thats real life happening. the way you caught yourself appreciating it instead of performing it or resisting it says a lot. most people stay mad about the shit day and never let it shift
