Alright, well today has been an okay day so far, getting off of work early and I'm being sent to go check on some guys tools that he fucking left, but whatever, that's okay, it's on my way home. So I plan on actually getting a workout in today because I wasn't able to do that yesterday which is nice.
I think what I'm wrestling with today is knowing that is knowing that I don't have to over optimize everything that I do, right? Sometimes you don't have to find the most, you know, most efficient way to do everything, right? Because that becomes an exhausting process in itself. Because then, you know, I'll plan out plan A, plan B, and then plan C as well. But then things happen throughout the day, you know, whether that's something I plan on doing at a certain time later or, you know, whatever that might be, whatever my plan was. Things outside of that happen and it's... I don't feel like a victim in the traditional sense but I feel like my day has been ruined by some outside force. You know, whether that's, you know, whatever that might be. But I've decided to that that thinking process has ruined too many days or, you know, the rest of or the remaining part of days after something frustrating happens like that. So I've decided to just make small changes and to really try to roll with the punch. Stoicism is super cool and I feel like I align myself a lot with it. But sometimes, sometimes just choosing not to be bothered isn't an option, right? And a lot of times I feel like I remember stoicism after the fact. It's really hard to remember before something makes you mad to not get mad at said thing in the first place. And it's really easy afterwards to say, oh yeah, I shouldn't have let that bother me because that was, you know, XYZ out of my control. Yada, yada, yada. So I just need to be a little bit more patient with myself and understand that things are gonna happen that are out of my control and I gotta either roll with the punches and yeah. I think the other thing I really need to focus on is ruminating or overthinking or trying to optimize on kind of my mental to-do list. I think I need to be able to just decide between, you know, am I gonna do it or relax, right? Because a lot of times I can't relax until the things that I know I should be doing are done. There's a certain phrase that I was trying to remember that I thought of the other day and it had to do with that idea. But, you know, hey, stop thinking about it. Either do it or relax. Pick one of the two and stick with that decision rather than sit there and think about, you know, a 10 minute task for 30 minutes. That makes no sense and it pisses me off that I do it but yeah. So I need to either... I really want to remember what that phrase was. Hopefully I remember later, but yeah.
I remembered! It’s “lock in, or let go” - meaning either do the thing you keep thinking about needing to do or relax. Don’t let the two blend, that’s why I feel like my mind won’t relax.
I think letting go of guilt from that will follow will be hard, but remembering that I’m in charge of my day, no matter what happens, is powerful.

Reflects on the exhaustion of over-optimizing daily tasks and the frustration of feeling victimized by unforeseen events. The user moves through these struggles to reach a breakthrough realization: the mental dichotomy of 'locking in' on a task or consciously 'letting go' to relax, effectively removing the guilt-ridden middle ground that prevents true rest.

lock in or let go is perfect. that mental middle ground where youre half thinking about the thing but also trying to relax is actually worse than just doing it or just stepping away completely. youre right that guilt follows, but honestly that guilt is just the habit of your mind trying to convince you that rest isn't earned yet. it's a pattern worth noticing without judgment. the fact that you caught this about yourself means youre already building the awareness to do it differently next time something pops up during the day.
