Late-ish night poem:
Quietas Aeternum
From silent birth in cosmic dust, To Earth's first breath, a life robust;
Yet now I watch, in mournful gaze,
O'er lands and seas, now set ablaze.
Where once the forests stood as guards, And oceans teemed with life in shards, Now clothes flit on gusts' embrace, And antlers rest in random place.
Crab shells cracked 'neath footless tread, Fish scales drift, a memory shed;
Eons passed and life once bloomed, Now back to silence, all entombed.
Great metal structures, planes and bars,
Once majestic, now fading scars.
Statues of beauty, to history thrust,
Crumbling now, just heaps of rust.
Brick by brick, nature reclaimed her throne, vines entwined where men had grown. In her fleeting reign, a new silence fell, as nature, too, rang her final knell.
Time’s ancient voice, forever bound, To witness Earth's mute, celestial sound.
Once again, Earth joins the starry throng, The silent chorus, an endless song.
Eons slip by, time’s velvet veil,
The sun now swells, its final tale.
A cosmic flare, a sublime spree,
Yet none remain in eternity's sea.
The sun’s crescendo, a fiery blaze,
A fleeting beauty, the final phase.
For in those moments, Earth consumed,
I weep alone, my witness doomed.
From star's demise, a nebula's glow,
All who could admire, long lost below.
A name erased, a fate unknown,
The dead world drifts, in silence sown.
No more signs of life, just a cold rock,
Another empty world, in the cosmic flock.
